Boone County Cattlemen's Assoc.

Welcome to the Boone County Cattlemen's.
The first county association web site in Missouri.
We are an organization that is dedicated to servicing the needs and bringing a voice of the Boone County Cattlemen to the state and national levels.
It is important that no matter how many or how few cows and calves you may own or manage that you belong to an organization that will support your operation.  We are an affiliate of the Missouri Cattlemen's Association ( www.mocattle.com ) and if you are not a member take time to check out our membership benefits as a state member.  There are even more benefits as a County member. We have several meetings a year with a variety of sponsors full of great knowledge that you can take home and use on your operation or in your personal well being.  All of these meetings come with a free meal.  We also offer 7 scholarships a year to area youth with emphasis given to those belonging to the organization.  For more information on how to become a member please go to the contact us section and contact Phillip Brooks for more information.
What's Happening:
May 2nd we assisted the Mizzou Collegiate Cattlewomen with their annual Meet your Meat event held at Lowery Mall on the MU campus. This was another huge success this year and the ladies did a great job asking questions and dealing with the public.  We were glad we could be a part of this event.  We served just over 400 steak sandwiches in 3 hours.

May 14th the Hallsville 3rd grade class visited Buckman farms for a day of learning.  Various learning stations were set up and beef burgers were served. About 150 students, teachers, and parents attended the event and fun was had by all.  Special thanks to all who came out to make this day a learning experience and promote BEEF in a positive way.

May 19th will be our annual BBQ Contest to promote Beef Month.  This year we will be at the new MOSER'S on the North side of Columbia. For details on how to be a participant in the contest contact Greg Buckman by going to our "contact us" page.

May 22nd we will again be cooking for the Jefferson Junior High Students at the 9th Grade picnic.  We will be serving just under 400 burgers in about an hour.

Note from the Boone County President

On April 23rd, 2012 a dark cloud fell upon the Missouri Cattlemen's Association as Jeff Windett decided to resign.  Jeff was a huge asset to the Association and carried a strong voice on our behalf to both the state capital in Jefferson City and to our nation's capital in DC.  Jeff loves the industry and devoted all his time to this association and to all the producers in this state both members and non-members.  It is tragic that because of the actions of some of our elected officials within the executive commitee that Jeff felt he had to step down for moral and ethical reasons.
Jeff does a great job outlining what he has done for us in the latest edition of the Missouri Cattlemen's Beef magazine.  It is a tragedy to lose someone who has worked so hard to help make this organization what it is today.  Jeff will be greatly missed!

Now the dark cloud is becoming a full storm on the Association.  As of May 7, 2012, after almost 10 years of service, Lesley Ann Snodgrass has announced her resignation as Director of Programs.  Lesley has stuck it out through 3 Executive VP's, numberous elected officials, the ups, downs, goods, bads and everything she has had thrown at her over the years....until now.  For reasons very much the same as Jeff's she has decided to give up a career in an industry she loves.  One that she devoted all her time to over the last 10 years and just a few months ago was still excited to be a part of.  It is again tragic to lose someone who contributed so much over the years and done so much to improve our organization.  Lesley too will be greatly missed.

Is it just me or should we be concerned about why the two biggest assets we had in MCA, that devoted so much of their time and lives to an organization they care so much about, all of the sudden see things within that they don't like and feel they need to remove themselves from the situation in this way?

Always remember that as a member you have a right to voice your opinion at any time.  Feel free to contact the MCA office, your regional VP, your county President, or myself (see our contact us page) to do so.  The best way to do this is via email.  Your voice should and will be heard.

The search committee has now been announced and resumes are being accepted to fill the position of Executive Vice President of the Association.  If you know someone who would be good for this position in your area or from anywhere on the map encourage them to submit their resume.  mcaresume@mocattle.com
